About the Role:

Reporting to: Operations Service ManagerEmployment Type: permanent, full-timeWork Location: South Wharf, Melbourne

As a Junior Ship Planner, you will assist in developing efficient stowage plans that optimize vessel space, ensure cargo safety, and comply with operational and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate closely with operations, documentation, and terminal teams to resolve planning issues, support daily vessel operations, and contribute to continuous process improvements.

The role and responsibilities will include:

* Assisting in creating and updating vessel stowage plans to optimize space utilization, vessel stability, and cargo safety
* Reviewing booking information, cargo restrictions, and documentation to ensure compliance with operational, regulatory, and client requirements
* Coordinating closely with terminal, operations, and documentation teams to resolve planning conflicts and support smooth vessel turnaround
* Monitoring load and discharge operations, adjusting plans as required, and maintaining accurate data in planning systems and software
* Identifying potential risks or issues (such as overweights or hazardous cargo conflicts) and escalating them promptly to senior planners or supervisors

To be successful in this role, you will need:

* Tertiary qualifications in maritime, nautical studies, supply chain / logistics discipline or an equivalent level of seagoing Certificate of Competency
* Minimum 2 years' experience in the operational aspects of the shipping industry
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, meet deadlines, cope with changing circumstances and people
* Proficiency in computer systems and MS Office, with the ability to learn specialized planning or terminal operating software

Eligibility Requirements

* Applicants must be an Australian citizens or permanent residents.
* Applicants must have full working rights in Australia for the entire duration of the contract.
* New Zealand citizens planning to relocate permanently to Victoria, Australia, are more than welcome to apply.
