With the launch of our IT Operating Model and the transition of critical IT services in‐house, we are transforming the way we deliver technology, making it faster, more responsive, and more aligned with the needs of our organisation and customers.
As part of this transformation, we're hiring multiple new positions. These roles are key to shaping a vibrant and forward‐thinking Chief Technology Office, one that adds real value, delivers better outcomes, and works in smarter, more agile ways.
If you're equally excited about innovation, transformation, and making a meaningful impact, now is the perfect time to join us.
About the Role
As an IoT Software Developer, you will play a key role in delivering and evolving the City's Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. Working across a diverse portfolio including smart water infrastructure, environmental sensors, smart lighting and city monitoring systems, you will ensure reliable device connectivity, high‐quality data and seamless integration with cloud and enterprise platforms.
This is a hands‐on role that blends software development with real‐world deployment. You'll take end‐to‐end ownership of IoT solutions, from device configuration and commissioning in the field through to cloud integration, data flow validation and ongoing optimisation within Azure environments.
We're Looking For People Who Have
* Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* Experience working with IoT systems, embedded devices or connected technologies.
* Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Node.js) and experience with APIs and integration patterns.
* Knowledge of IoT communication protocols such as MQTT, REST and networking concepts.
* Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure (IoT Hub, IoT Central).
* Strong problem‐solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot across both software and hardware environments.
* Ability to work independently in both technical and field‐based environments.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to document and explain technical concepts clearly.
* A proactive, curious mindset with a passion for emerging technologies and smart city innovation.
