Department of Education Victoria – Wonthaggi VIC
11d ago, from Department of Education & Training Victoria
Wonthaggi North Primary School is a vibrant coastal town on the Bass Coast, 128 km to the southeast of Melbourne with approximately 155 students.
The school is situated in an identified future growth corridor, with new subdivisions and commercial developments around town.
One of the great strengths of the school is our ability to provide a positive learning environment with a broad range of opportunities for our students.
These include learning Spanish, art, drama, ICT and physical education along with library, extra sporting opportunities, camps and excursions.
The school also offers before and after school care provided by Their Care.
At Wonthaggi North PS we pride ourselves on creating an environment where all children can find the tools to be their best selves within and beyond the school walls.
Our school embraces diversity and reflects the multicultural, artistic and varying socio-economic nature of our local community.
We believe that every individual student is capable of success.
To help students succeed socially and emotionally, our staff are committed to delivering and modelling the Respectful Relationships Curriculum, Zones of Regulation and Real Schools programmes.
Students are empowered to take pride in themselves, respect others and care for the environment, becoming strong role models who show empathy and compassion.
To meet every student's needs our staff work hard to create personalised learning spaces that allow students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to feel safe, secure, valued and supported.
Teachers deliver the curriculum through engaging lessons informed by their knowledge of each student and encourage them to take risks that advance their learning.
Our learners have many opportunities to develop their leadership skills in Junior School Council, Eco Warriors and the Cultural Team.
Through these programmes we ensure that students' voices are heard and valued so that they learn the power of their own voice.
The Sounds Write Phonics Programme is taught from Prep to Grade Six and there is additional tutoring support in mathematics and English.
We value a hands-on approach to learning and support students to develop resilience, independence, accountability for their learning and problem-solving skills through challenge.
The school features a full-sized gymnasium, large outdoor play areas, covered walkways between buildings, outside classrooms, three outdoor basketball courts, a generous range of play equipment and attractive gardens.
A star element of our outdoor area is the organic fruit and vegetable garden that staff and students maintain and enjoy together.
Parents are encouraged to participate in the School Council, Parents and Friends Association (PFA) or join any of our sub-committees of the school council.
