Unix Systems Engineer Job Description
We are seeking a skilled IT professional to fill the role of Unix Systems Engineer. This is a key position within our IT department, responsible for maintaining and supporting Linux/Unix technologies.
Responsibilities
* Maintain and support Linux/Unix systems and applications within the business.
* Perform support tasks such as patching, troubleshooting, and triaging of problems via escalation from operations centre.
* Provide solutions and services that strategically harness the power of Information Technology.
* Support internal groups, customers, and third-party providers.
* Stay up-to-date with technological advancements and provide suggestions for improvements to systems.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and procedures by identifying opportunities for improvement.
* Work to project timelines and provide timely reporting as required.
Key areas of focus include system administration, network design, deployment of new initiatives, and ensuring the integrity of the network and associated documentation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in IT/Telco
* Vendor certification (e.g., RHCE/RHCOA)
* Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role
* Unix/Linux system administration skills
* Experience with Telco/ISP applications
* Knowledge of virtualisation/containerisation/storage/load balancing/high availability
