Local Laws Officer – Traffic & Compliance
We are currently seeking a part‐time Local Laws Officer to join our Local Laws Team.
Responsibilities
Our Local Laws Officers enhance the quality of life within the community by fostering greater public understanding, ownership, and compliance of Council adopted local laws and other legislation. In the role you will work collaboratively with community members, taking an educative and empowering approach in resolving community concerns.
* Develop cooperative relationships with the business community using education, negotiation and conflict management skills, and where necessary enforcement.
* Promote a positive, approachable, and professional image of Council within the community by delivering a customer‐centred service.
* Perform duties outside normal working hours by participating in the emergency after‐hours services roster.
* Operate in various functions—including responding to customer requests, maintaining organisational records, and supporting the broader Local Laws Team as required.
Qualifications
We are seeking someone with a passion for providing excellent customer service and a desire to work collaboratively with community members, including providing advice, guidance and assistance. You will have excellent time‐management skills with the ability to manage your own time to ensure objectives are met in a timely manner.
* Work on your feet and conduct Central Business District parking patrols.
* Interpret and enforce relevant legislation and policies.
* Understand court procedures and give evidence regarding prosecutions for offences in the Magistrates Court and at VCAT.
* Have proficiency in computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office/Outlook.
* Have a post‐trade certificate or post‐secondary qualification, or be prepared to undertake study to achieve a Certificate IV in Civic Compliance or Certificate IV in Animal Control and Regulation.
Successful applicants are required to apply for and satisfactorily obtain a National Police Check and a Working with Children's Check, and to complete a pre‐employment medical check.
