About the Opportunity Our client, a leading global mining company, is seeking an experienced CHPP Control Systems Engineer to ensure the integrity, reliability, and performance of control systems across their Coal Handling and Preparation Plant operations in Queensland.
This is a hands-on role where you'll be at the forefront of maintaining and optimising critical automation and control infrastructure that keeps operations running safely and efficiently. You'll play a vital role in fault resolution, change management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You'll Be Doing
Monitor & Optimise PLCs, AVEVA Plant SCADA, PI Historian, and AVEVA Production Management (MES) systemsLead control system modifications through structured change management processesPerform advanced control loop tuning to optimise process stability and reduce operational variabilityDevelop operational dashboards and reports to support real-time decision-makingTroubleshoot and resolve system issues proactively to minimise downtimeMaintain comprehensive documentation including logic diagrams, network architecture, and configuration filesCollaborate across teams - working with operations, maintenance, engineering, IT, and external vendorsSupport plant shutdowns, commissioning, and upgrades as requiredProvide training and technical support to site personnel on control systemsDrive continuous improvement through root cause analysis and reliability initiatives
What You'll Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplineSignificant mining industry experience (coal sector highly regarded)Proven experience with PLC and SCADA systems (ideally Rockwell and AVEVA Plant SCADA/Citect)Experience in process control systems maintenance, alarm philosophy, and control codingValid Driver's License
Highly Desirable:
Queensland Electrical LicenceExperience with PI Historian and AVEVA Production Management (formerly AMPLA)Knowledge of LV electrical systemsIT/Networking experienceFamiliarity with PID control loops, telemetry systems, and instrumentationSQL Server, Report Manager, and Report Builder skillsCoding experience (Python, C#)Understanding of Queensland Coal Mining Act and relevant safety legislation
