Lead timely psychological assessment and interventions for adults needing emergency mental health care—using your expertise to support recovery and strengthen continuity of care.

Where you'll be working

Located in the new 6-bed Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) co-located with the Westmead Hospital Adult Emergency Department, this role is part of the Cumberland West Mental Health Services Relocation Project—designed to deliver rapid, person-centred access to acute mental health care. You'll join Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD), a leader in delivering accessible, high-quality care across Western Sydney.

What you'll be doing

As the Clinical Psychologist, you will deliver specialist psychological services to consumers admitted to the PECC and, where required, other mental health units. You will use advanced clinical judgment to assess, diagnose, plan and deliver brief interventions for adults presenting with acute psychological distress, while working closely with a highly skilled multidisciplinary team.

Your key responsibilities include:

* Providing evidence-based assessment, formulation and brief psychological interventions for adult mental health presentations
* Exercising independent clinical judgment to design, implement and evaluate treatment plans tailored to consumer needs
* Collaborating with ED and mental health teams to ensure safe, seamless, recovery-oriented care
* Contributing to multidisciplinary case reviews, stakeholder engagement and continuity of care
* Leading quality improvement initiatives, supervising staff and supporting education and research activities

Essential Requirements:

Qualification: Completion of a recognised Master's or Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology

Registration: Current full registration with AHPRA, Psychology Board of Australia

Selection Criteria:

* Must hold a post graduate degree in clinical psychology (Masters, and/or Doctorate or PhD) and full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA)
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in delivering evidence-based psychological assessment, case formulation, and intervention for adults presenting with moderate to severe mental health conditions. Experience in providing brief psychological interventions for mental health presentations.
* Experience and demonstrated ability in building and maintaining professional and therapeutic relationships through the application of written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
* Demonstrated ability to apply and share expert knowledge with colleagues and other health professionals to enhance service delivery
* Demonstrated experience and ability to identify opportunities and innovatively contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of service delivery incorporating continuous improvement, evidence-based practice and research
* Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision, mentoring, and development of junior staff and students
* Demonstrated high level organisational, prioritisation and time management skills in an environment of competing clinical/administrative demands.
* Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including collaborative stakeholder consultation.
