The Role Southern Pines Farms is a respected family-run agribusiness located in the picturesque Marion Bay, on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. The operation combines broad-acre farming with livestock, running approximately 100 sheep and 50 cattle. A well-equipped farm, utilising a modern fleet of predominantly New Holland machinery, they are seeking a dedicated and skilled Assistant Farm Manager to play a vital role in their diverse, family-run operation. This is a hands-on position focused on supporting the everyday running of a medium-scale cropping enterprise, which includes the production of beans, barley, canola, lentils, and oats. The successful candidate will be a key team member, responsible for a variety of tasks including the maintenance and operation of farm equipment, implementing planting schedules, managing crop health, and carrying out harvesting and delivery to port. A crucial element of the role involves assisting the managing owner with logistics and actively managing staff, up to 5 during the busy harvest period and 3 full-time staff for the remainder of the year. Experience utilising farm management software such as AgWorld is highly valued. The role also requires capability with satellite guidance systems, weather and rainfall apps, and monitoring FDI daily over harvest. All cropping is managed using a 12-metre controlled traffic system. A commitment to good communication and teamwork is essential for seamless operations. The Ideal Candidate Preferably, the successful candidate will be a practical, resilient, and team-oriented individual with a proven background in broad-acre agriculture, ready to take on the challenges of an Assistant Farm Manager role, along with the following: At least 5 years of experience in the agriculture industry, with a focus on cropping and machinery. Must possess a Heavy Combination (HC) truck licence; a Multi-Combination (MC) licence is strongly preferred, or a strong willingness to obtain it shortly after starting. Excellent communication skills to work effectively with staff and management. A proactive ability to problem-solve and maintain a positive, can-do attitude as a team player. Experience in equipment maintenance and operation, as well as familiarity with farm management software like AgWorld, is highly desirable.
