About Austral International
Based in Hobart, Tasmania, Austral International designs and manufactures high-quality safety access covers and related infrastructure solutions. The business supplies clients across Australia and New Zealand, with a focus on delivering reliable products and responsive service. With steady growth and a clear plan for the future, Austral is committed to maintaining its reputation for quality while expanding into new opportunities.
About the Role
As Austral International continues to expand its footprint across Australia and New Zealand, the Business Development Manager will play a key role in driving that growth. You’ll be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building and maintaining strong client relationships, and helping strengthen the company’s market presence.
This role involves working closely with councils, water authorities, and developers, as well as engaging with clients in the civil construction and industrial sectors. A core focus will be securing product specifications in infrastructure projects and supporting long-term sales initiatives.
It’s an excellent opportunity for someone who is growth-driven, comfortable working independently, and motivated by the chance to contribute to a collaborative, fast-growing business.
Experience in the water or wastewater industry with established networks would be highly desirable, but we also encourage applications from those in industrial sales or construction sales who bring strong technical sales skills and the ability to succeed in long and complex sales cycles.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute growth strategies to expand Austral’s market share across the Eastern Seaboard
- Build and maintain strong relationships with water authorities, councils, civil contractors, industrial clients, and consultants

- Represent Austral at trade shows, industry events, and client meetings across Australia
- Promote Austral’s product range and work to secure specifications in tenders and infrastructure projects
- Collaborate with the internal sales support team to progress tenders, proposals, and client deliverables
- Share insights on competitors, industry trends, and opportunities to support business growth strategies
The Ideal Candidate
You are a dependable and driven sales qualified with a strong sense of initiative and a passion for building meaningful client relationships. You thrive in client-facing roles, where your ability to listen, understand, and respond to customer needs sets you apart. Confident and self-motivated, you’re comfortable managing multiple priorities at once, whether that’s identifying new business opportunities, navigating technical conversations, or following up on project specifications.
With a practical, solutions-focused approach to business development, you know how to translate customer challenges into commercial outcomes. You’re someone who sees the bigger picture but never loses sight of the details. Your communication is explicit, your follow-through is consistent, and your commitment to delivering value makes you a trusted partner to clients and colleagues alike.
While experience in the water and wastewater sectors would be highly regarded, we also welcome candidates from industrial sales, construction sales, or other technical B2B environments who bring strong networks, credibility, and the ability to succeed in long, complex sales cycles.
Above all, you take ownership of your work and are excited by the opportunity to make a tangible impact within a growing and supportive team environment.
Qualifications
- Proven B2B Business Development or Sales experience, ideally within the water, wastewater, industrial, or construction sectors.
- A self-starter with a proactive, hands-on mindset.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in reporting and site work.
- Willingness to travel frequently across Australia.
- Experience with specification selling or technical sales will be highly regarded.
