As part of our Systems Delivery Group, the Software Team Lead will lead and supervise a team of engineers that contributes to the development of the Saab 9LV Combat Management System, a naval command and control system that integrates sensors, weapons, and data to provide situational awareness and decision support for maritime operations. As the leader of an agile integrated development team in a large software development organization, the role is responsible for leading the production of software that is mission essential and safety critical.
Further, the successful candidate will:
* Lead and supervise engineers in an agile integrated development team.
* Drive the team's execution of and adherence to software development processes and plans.
* Lead the development of new software components to introduce features and expand equipment support, working with existing SDKs and frameworks.
* Lead the maintenance and improvement of legacy software components and associated engineering documentation.
* Responsible for ensuring the team's work is captured in Jira, and ensuring ticket status, details, effort log and time estimates are accurate and regularly updated. Ensure defects are logged with sufficient detail for effective resolution.
* Actively manage team member's performance, setting performance-oriented goals and providing regular feedback.
* Carry out software engineering tasks in line with Saab Australia and Australian Defence policies, ensuring protection of classified information and compliance with ITAR and export control requirements.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.
About you
Your education, skills and experience will include:
* Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor's degree) in a relevant discipline (Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field etc.), and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).
* Fluent in at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Ada, C++, C#.
* Experienced in both procedural and object-oriented programming paradigms.
* Proficient in applying general-purpose and framework-specific design patterns to address architectural and implementation challenges.
* Apply configuration management principles and use Git to ensure controlled and traceable development of software products.
* Demonstrate appreciation of agile methodologies and systems engineering practices, and apply them appropriately throughout the software development lifecycle.
* Previous leadership experience.
* Familiarity with complex software-intensive systems (e.g. military systems) or related defence technologies is desirable.
* Proficient in the following programming and scripting languages: Bash, Python, Go, TypeScript.
* Experienced with tools and technologies including DDS, IBM DOORS, Docker, and the Atlassian tool suite.
* Skilled in software development within Linux-based environments.
* Skilled in designing and implementing test automation solutions, including the use of test automation frameworks.
* Capable of developing human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for interactive systems.
