About the Role
As a Data Modeller, you will support payroll remediation initiatives by designing and delivering high-quality data models that enable accurate underpayment analysis and back-pay calculations.
You will develop payroll remediation models using Snowflake SQL, aligned to industrial relations obligations and legislative requirements, to identify compliance gaps and calculate potential underpayments. Leveraging your expertise in Australian payroll, you will translate Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and IR pay rules into structured, auditable data assets that support transparent calculations, reconciliation, and regulatory compliance.
Ideal Candidates
Ideally looking for someone who has work in a software delivery space with:
* 3-5+ years' experiencein data modelling, data engineering, or analytics roles, with a strong focus oncomplex, time-based data
* Demonstrated experience on Australian payroll remediation, payroll transformation, or underpayment programs, with hands‐on involvement in historical recalculations.
* Strong Australian payroll domain knowledge, including:
* Modern awards and/or Enterprise Agreements
* Penalties, overtime, allowances, loadings
* Averaging arrangements and minimum engagement rules
* Superannuation (OTE vs non-OTE) and basic tax/charges concepts E.g Payroll tax, SGC, PAYG
* Proven ability to design logical and physical data models that support award and pay rule calculations.
* Advanced SQL skills, with experience preparing calculation-ready datasets for rule engines or large-scale recalculation logic.
* Experience integrating and reconciling data from payroll systems and time-and-attendance platforms.
* Strong understanding of effective-dated data, historical rate changes, and lookback period recalculations
* Experience producing audit-ready documentation, including data dictionaries, mappings, decisions and assumptions.
Core Responsibilities
* Design and maintain calculation-ready payroll data models to support large-scale payroll remediation activities.
* Structure and transform payroll, time and attendance, and HR data into a canonical remediation model suitable for historical recalculations.
* Prepare data assets that support:
o Award and Enterprise Agreement pay rules
o Penalty, overtime, and allowance calculations
o Apportionment of hours and pay across time boundaries
o Averaging arrangements and higher‐of comparisons
o Recalculation across multi‐year remediation lookback periods
* Analyse and map data from multiple payroll and timekeeping systems, documenting source-to-target mappings and transformation logic.
* Ensure payroll data is effective-dated, auditable, and traceable for quality assurance requirements.
* Implement data quality checks and support reconciliation of recalculated outcomes against original payroll payments or compliance models.
* Produce clear documentation including data dictionaries, model diagrams, and assumptions to support audit, legal, and Fair Work scrutiny.
* Work collaboratively with IR, Legal, Payroll, and remediation calculation teams to validate data outputs and resolve data issues.
* Deliver agreed modelling and data outputs within scope, timelines, and governance frameworks typical of payroll remediation programs.
