Overview
An Australian Government agency is seeking an experienced APS6 Team Lead (Senior Program Officer) to lead a small team delivering a national medical workforce program. This role is ideal for a confident people leader with strong program management skills who enjoys balancing operational leadership with strategic contribution. The program supports improved access to medical professionals in regional, rural and remote Australia, operating within a legislative and policy-driven environment.
Responsibilities
* Manage team workflows, including quality assurance, performance support and oversight of complex and escalated matters.
* Lead and support a team of program and case management staff
* Provide guidance on program administration, ensuring consistent application of legislation and policy.
* Prepare high-quality briefs, correspondence, reports and advice for internal and external stakeholders.
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
* Manage agreements in line with program management principles and ensure compliance.
* Contribute to section-level planning, reporting and corporate management activities.
You will bring
* A broad understanding of the Australian health system and government operating environments.
* Demonstrated experience in program management, including strong analytical and decision-making skills.
* Strategic and innovative thinking, with the ability to problem solve collaboratively.
* Strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive stakeholder relationships.
* Proven experience leading, mentoring and developing staff to deliver high-quality outcomes.
* A strong sense of accountability for team performance and section outcomes.
Working arrangements
* Duties are performed from government offices in Brisbane or Canberra.
* Flexible working arrangements, including limited remote work, may be negotiated on commencement.
* The role operates in a professional, collaborative and outcomes-focused team environment.
Eligibility
* Be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.
* Successfully complete required pre-employment checks.
* Baseline clearance would be highly regarded.
