Job description
The Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and compliant workplace by implementing, monitoring, and reviewing workplace health and safety policies, procedures, and programs. This role requires a 'boots on ground' approach with proactive attitude to mitigate risks to employees, contractors, and visitors across Parratech sites.
Key Responsibilities:
1. WHS Compliance and Risk Management
· Ensure compliance with the relevant state/territory WHS legislation and industry standards.
· Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement control measures.
· Develop, review, and update Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), risk registers.
· Monitor and report on compliance with WHS policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
2. Incident Management and Investigation
· Respond to workplace incidents, injuries, and near-misses, ensuring timely reporting to management
· Conduct thorough incident investigations to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
· Maintain accurate records of incidents and safety data in compliance with WHS regulations.
3. Training and Safety Awareness
· Deliver WHS training programs, inductions, and toolbox talks to employees, contractors, and visitors.
· Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging with workers and management to raise awareness of WHS responsibilities and best practices through site walks.
· Ensure all employees are trained in the safe use of equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures.
4. Safety Systems and Documentation
· Maintain site specific WHS documentation, and safety data sheets (SDS).
· Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
5. Consultation and Communication
· Act as a point of contact for WHS matters, liaising with employees, management, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
· Facilitate health and safety committee meetings and consult with workers on safety issues as required under WHS legislation.
6. Continuous Improvement
·Identify opportunities to improve WHS processes and systems to enhance workplace safety and efficiency.
Stay up to date with changes in WHS legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
Key Selection Criteria:
Essential Qualifications and Experience
· Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (WHS) or equivalent qualification.
· Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in a safety officer or similar WHS role, preferably in construction or manufacturing.
· Industry-specific qualifications (White Card for construction, First Aid Certificate).
· Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation relevant state/territory regulations.
· Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and developing SWMS.
· Proven ability to deliver WHS training and engage diverse stakeholders.
Skills and Competencies
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify hazards and implement effective controls.
·Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and WHS management systems/software.
· Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
· ICAM Certification.
· Mandarin speaking.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to conduct on-site inspections, which may involve walking, climbing, or working in various environmental conditions.
· Occasional travel within NSW may be required to support multiple locations.
