The Role
Reporting to the Manager, Service Enablement, we have a permanent full‑time opportunity within the Water Treatment team.
Responsibilities
As Senior Asset Manager, you will:
* Provide technical leadership, coordination, and oversight of programs within assigned asset portfolios and disciplines, working collaboratively across the business.
* Manage infrastructure assets in partnership with peers to optimise capital programmes, maintenance strategies, and deliver technical and asset management expertise.
We are particularly keen to hear from engineers with experience in analytical instrumentation.
Your asset portfolio will focus on electrical assets within water systems, including but not limited to:
* Pumping stations (pumps, rising mains, cranes, fire suppression systems, instrumentation)
* Water mains, gravity pipelines, structures, roads, and bridges
* Penstocks, flowmeters
* Valves, pressure‑reducing stations, instrumentation
* Air Treatment Facilities
* Sewerage and Water Treatment assets
Key Responsibilities
* Execute Asset Management tasks in line with established processes, including maintenance strategy development, condition monitoring, technical query resolution, root cause analysis, and asset registration in Maximo.
* Develop business cases for capital projects aligned with Melbourne Water's capital management framework.
* Make decisions that minimise whole‑of‑life costs for assets and services.
* Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, providing technical advice to Service Delivery (Operations and Maintenance) teams.
* Offer guidance and support to team members as required.
About You
* Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline and general understanding of the water and sewerage system including treatment.
* Active engineering registration in a related discipline (i.e. electrical) relevant to the position is required.
* Experience in the lifecycle management of water industry assets or equivalent industry/infrastructure including condition monitoring of assets.
* Ability to critically explore and analyse solution options and evaluate consequences of different risk scenarios and implement appropriate cost‑effective risk management techniques.
* Proven history of working as a collaborative team member and working in a constructive culture to achieve customer‑centric outcomes.
* Experience with IT systems (Eg: MS Office, Maximo, GIS, etc.)
* Strong interpersonal skills together with excellent verbal and written skills.
* Demonstrate initiative and ability to prioritise and perform complex professional/technical work with general supervision and exercise professional/technical judgement.
* Obtain AusCheck Clearance. (please see important information below*)
* Hold a valid Australian Driver's Licence.

*Important Information
The Security of Critical Infrastructure (SoCI) Act requires Melbourne Water, as an operator of critical infrastructure, to prepare a Critical Infrastructure Risk Management Programme (CIRMP), which has been undertaken and managed by the Security and Emergency Management Team.
Melbourne Water are required to assess roles across Melbourne Water to determine what roles are critical under the Act. All employees working in a role deemed SOCI critical will require additional background checks via AusCheck. The Senior Asset Manager position is deemed critical and the preferred applicant will be asked to undertake an AusCheck.
