See Yourself in Our Team: The Engineering Platforms team is seeking an experienced Principal Software engineer to join us, with a function dedicated to working with Commonwealth Bank’s global engineering community to use both internal and AI assisted tools and capabilities in ways that improve the engineering experience and productivity. You will be working with CommBank’s top engineers and AI experts to drive training, culture and experimentation so that all our engineers are making the best use of the emerging technologies that make them happier and more productive. We’re interested in hearing from people who: Have experience decomposing monoliths, Or experience of building microservices at scale, Or experience of building data intensive APIs, Or experience of building event driven applications Have real world experience of operating microservices in the DevSecOps model Have real world experience of building high performing Engineering teams and upskilling lower performing teams Identifies, gains support and ensures execution of technical direction and strategy for the business Designs and implements solutions to complex problems, including onboarding and migrating to new tooling as well as removing obsolete systems and code Encourages risk-taking and constructively challenges the status quo while influencing stakeholders and building diverse and inclusive teams Skills Required This is a highly technical role, requiring a broad range of skills, tools, languages, and frameworks and should include a number of the following: Technical Skills Cloud: AWS, Serverless, Containers, and VM Hosting Databases: AWS Database technologies (Aurora, RDS, Redis), ElastiCache, Oracle Programming Languages: Java, Kotlin, Typescript Eventing: SQS, SNS, EventBridge, KAFKA (MKS) Engineering: Github, Github Actions, Terraform Enterprise, Artifactory, AKKA, SST Observability: OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Observe, CloudWatch Security: Vault, Security Management, Parameter Store, AWS Certificate Manager, AWS Secrets Manager Design skills Testing : TDD, BDD, Automation Framework System Design: Tech debt, data-intensive applications, database design, API design, microservices, event-driven and serverless architecture AI: AI in engineering (e.g., Cline, CoPilot), RAG, MCP, Gen-AI, Agentic-AI, machine learning If you thrive on creating lasting, impactful technology and want to be part of an inclusive team that values innovation and growth, we'd love to hear from you!
