About The Role
You will be working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH). It is one of the nation's most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. The Technical Officer will assist the RPA Department of Neuropathology to perform its laboratory based work. This encompasses the general brain cut laboratory, the Molecular Neuropathology laboratory, the CJD laboratory and in some instances the nerve and muscle laboratory, MS Research Australia Brain Bank, and the Neuropathology Tumour and Tissue Bank.
The position primarily focuses performing histological and basic molecular procedures, including accessioning specimens, assisting pathologists in specimen cutup, routine tissue embedding, microtomy, routine and special staining, immunohistochemical staining, cryostat sectioning, enzyme histochemical staining, macro-photography and micro-photography, large tissue sectioning, DNA extraction, backup duties such as retrieval/filing of slides and paraffin blocks, storage and disposal of histology specimens, and other general laboratory duties.

Ideal Candidate
* Possess the pathology techniques associate diploma, science degree, or equivalent qualification.
* Proven experience in routine histological techniques such as microtomy, routine and special staining, tissue embedding techniques, and histopathological cut-up techniques.
* Demonstrated knowledge of specialised Histology techniques (immunohistochemistry, large tissue sectioning, cryostat sectioning, macrophotography, micro-photography, and enzyme histochemistry).
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting, maintaining good relationships with co-workers and other building occupants.
