Primary objective

The Training Centre Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Palmerston Youth Skills

Centre, ensuring the smooth delivery of programs, and maintaining a high level of service quality. The role involves managing staff,

coordinating resources, optimising processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and enhancing the overall effectiveness

and efficiency of the centres operations.

Context statement

The Palmerston Youth Skills Centre (PYSC) provides nationally accredited vocational training for young people aged 14-17, fostering their

personal and professional development in a supportive and inclusive environment. The centre delivers tailored education programs across

various disciplines, emphasising mentoring, empowerment, and skills development to prepare students for future employment or further

study.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Design, deliver and evaluate professional development and support programs to build the capacity of staff, including developing

support materials, online tutorials and authorising tools to assist staff to self-learn including requirements for trainers for registration

with the Teacher Registration Board, Industry and Vocational Competency.

1. Lead and manage projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and budget. Collaborate

with cross-functional teams to define project goals, monitor progress, identify risks, and provide regular updates to senior management.

1. Oversee the operation, maintenance and improvement of centre facilities, managing vendor relationships and ensuring service delivery

meets quality and safety standards, coordinate repairs, upgrades and space utilisation to support operational needs with minimal

disruption.

1. Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders including community organisations, government agencies and industry representatives

to enhance the centre's reputation and expand training opportunities.

1. Continuously assess and refine operational processes to improve efficiency, service delivery and overall performance of the centre.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with managers, directors, colleagues within the agency as

well as with external organisations and the educational sector.

2. Demonstrated ability to develop creative and adapt solutions to address challenging issues and manage change effectively

1. Sound management skills with the ability to use coaching and mentoring techniques to build staff capacity and to motivate and

support a multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality client-focussed services.

4. Demonstrated ability to manage and work effectively within teams, cultivating a positive and inclusive culture through open

communication, respect, and a commitment to collective success.

5. Knowledge of facilities management, including overseeing maintenance, vendor relationships, ensuring compliance with safety

standards and optimising the use of physical space to support operational needs.

1. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement standardised systems and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and drive

continuous improvement.
