About the Role
We\'re seeking an experienced Management Accountant to provide vital financial support during a busy peak period. This full-time, 7-month temporary position offers the chance to showcase your expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis. You will work closely with senior leaders to produce accurate reports, support forecast processes, and drive continuous improvements—all within a flexible hybrid work environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and review monthly financial reports: budget vs. actual, forecasts, variance analysis
* Support the development of budgets and forecasts for business units and projects
* Provide timely financial insights and variance explanations to senior managers
* Manage end-of-month, end-of-year financial activities, including accruals and corrections
* Assist with internal and external audits by collating required documentation
* Educate staff on financial policies, procedures, and best practices
* Support process improvements and contribute to financial governance compliance
What We Are Looking For
* Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience
* Previous experience in management accounting, ideally within government or public sector
* Strong proficiency in Excel and financial systems; experience with Oracle preferred
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills
* Effective communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
* High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality
* Proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work
Desirable Attributes
* CPA or CA membership
* Familiarity with Victorian Government financial policies and the Financial Management Act
* Experience supporting or liaising with external auditors
Additional Details
* Location: Melbourne; Hybrid: Office 3 days/week, WFH 2 days/week
* Start date: ASAP - candidates available within the next few weeks preferred
* Salary: $120,924 - $130,110 plus super (Band 8)
* Contract duration: 7 months
* Must have at least 2 COVID-19 doses or valid medical exemption
