About the Role
The Vegetation Officer plays a key role in maintaining the safety and integrity of TasRail's rail corridor as part of our Land & Vegetation team. This is a hands-on, outdoors role responsible for delivering the vegetation program of works across the state, including spraying operations, tree and vegetation control, access track maintenance and Track Protection Officer duties. Working as part of a small, mobile team, you'll follow the Land & Vegetation Strategic Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) and contribute to ensuring TasRail's network remains safe, compliant, and operational.
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Launceston, with statewide travel and occasional overnight stays required.
About You
You will be a hard working individual, able to work in teams and to a plan. You will need to be physically fit and comfortable working outside. You will have some maintenance experience and be a skilled versatile individual with a commitment to safety and willingness to learn.
Primary Responsibilities will include:
· Working with and following the Land and Vegetation VMP strategy, whilst always working inside the safety circle
· Ensuring a safe working environment is prepared prior to commencing work and maintained during through to completion of works
· Undertake spraying operations as planned and directed in a safe and efficient manner, including on track boom and targeted hand spraying
· Targeted tree management using appropriate practices, including both trimming and selective removal of small and juvenile trees.
· Access track recovery and maintenance
· Track Protection Officer duties as required, including but not limited to ensuring the safety of all workers in the rail corridor by implementing appropriate safety measures, protection of all works and compliance to regulations
· Undertake TPO duties for 3rd party works, along with site inspections/evaluations as required
· Participate in and conduct safety assessments and audits
