Primary objective
Undertake compliance and enforcement activities in accordance with legislation administered by Northern Territory Consumer Affairs under the guidance and direction of the Manager Compliance and Investigations.
Context statement
Northern Territory Consumer Affairs is an independent office within the Department of Attorney-General and Justice and administers a regulatory framework that works to protect community interests through promotion and regulation of business conduct, and informs consumers and traders about their rights and obligations through education and conciliation services.
Key duties and responsibilities
Undertake compliance monitoring activities including the review, detailed analysis and investigation of complaints into alleged breaches of legislation administered by Northern Territory Consumer Affairs.
Respond to compliance related enquiries and record those enquiries in the appropriate manner.
Engage with stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislation administered by Northern Territory Consumer Affairs and take enforcement action where appropriate.
Interrogate data bases and analyse website information to progress investigations.
Assist in the administration and regulation of the MyFuel NT scheme.
Promote general consumer issues across the Northern Territory including participation in national consumer and fair trading focus groups.
Selection criteria
Essential
Proven experience in undertaking audits and/or complex investigations in a regulatory environment.
Experience in and an ability to negotiate positive outcomes through the use of alternative dispute resolution methods.
Demonstrated high level analytical and conceptual skills with an exceptional attention to detail.
Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills including professional report writing, and an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and people from diverse cultures.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation within a regulatory environment.
Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion and work cooperatively in a team environment.
Desirable
Qualifications in law, investigations or related discipline.
Knowledge and understanding of the Northern Territory Consumer Affairs environment and legislation.
A current NT Driver's Licence.
