Lead Culturally Safe Cancer Care in North West Queensland!

Join the Mount Isa Cancer Care Unit in this First Nations Identified Clinical Nurse Consultant role, working in partnership with the McGrath Foundation to support culturally safe cancer care for patients across North West Queensland.

This temporary part-time opportunity (48 hours per fortnight for up to 3 years) is ideal for a Nurse who identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is passionate about improving cancer outcomes for First Nations people. Based at Mount Isa Hospital, you will provide advanced clinical leadership, culturally responsive care, and support patients and families throughout their cancer journey.

About the Role

The First Nations Identified McGrath Cancer Care Nurse (Clinical Nurse Consultant) plays a key leadership role in delivering culturally safe, patient‐centred cancer care within the Mount Isa Cancer Care Unit. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and supported by specialist clinicians from the Townsville Oncology Centre, the role focuses on improving patient experience, strengthening cultural capability within the service and supporting patients and families throughout the cancer care journey.

This position values cultural identity, lived experience and community connection, recognising the importance of culturally responsive care in improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.

Working with us

Bonuses and benefits:

* For 1 year isolate bonus of AUD$3,605. If you stay for 2 years you will get AUD$10,815 and for your 3rd year (and every year after that) you will get AUD$7,210 (pro rata for part time employees).
* 1 return airfare p.a. (part time employees) to the nearest east coast provincial city in conjunction with your recreation leave; we offer 5 weeks p.a. with a leave loading/bonus.
* 12.75% employer superannuation contribution.
* Long Service Leave and Sick Leave accrual.
* Tax savings through salary sacrificing options are also available.

Plus 2 weeks p.a., travel as required and enrolment and conference costs for approved courses and conferences. We also offer staff accommodation (if eligible) or a private rental subsidy of AUD$82.50 per week for up to 17 months.

Requirements
* It is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 that the person who holds this position be an Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander person.
* Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences.
* Previous experience providing cancer nursing care and working in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health is highly regarded.
* If a First Nations applicant does not have formal qualifications in cancer care or oncology nursing, it is acknowledged that the McGrath Foundation and the Health Service will support them in obtaining postgraduate qualifications.
* Commence in the role within the McGrath Foundation Associate Pathway and receive support and guidance from the Foundation's First Nations Nurse Clinical Lead and Educator.
* C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
* Pre‐employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including criminal history checks.
* This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
* A period of probation may apply.
