The Opportunity
A key Federal Government Department is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer (EL1 equivalent) to deliver critical capability within a high-profile Defence and cyber security program.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant systems, take ownership of complex software engineering activities, and work within a highly secure, technically advanced environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and drive end-to-end software development, from design through to deployment and sustainment
* Interpret technical specifications to build, maintain and enhance scalable applications
* Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams
* Design and develop complex software systems aligned with secure development practices
* Implement and uplift CI/CD pipelines, automation, and system integration frameworks
* Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering standards and security requirements
* Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation
* Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements
AGSVA Clearance Requirement
* Current TSPV or TSPA Clearance (essential)
Skills & Experience
* Demonstrated experience aligned to SFIA Level 5 in software engineering and systems integration
* Strong development capability in Java and Python, with exposure to C++
* Experience working in Linux/UNIX environments
* Strong skills in SQL, data manipulation, and data transformation
* Experience with tools/platforms such as:
o Cloudera, Apache Airflow
o Splunk, OpenSearch, Elastic
o Azure or other cloud platforms
o Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence)
* Experience in cyber security or secure environments highly desirable
* Knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps practices, and integration frameworks
* Understanding of UX/UI design principles (desirable)
* Experience with Linux/Windows system administration

* Ability to design and lead complex systems, including architectural decision-making and trade-offs
* Strong stakeholder engagement and ability to provide specialist technical advice
* Experience contributing to engineering standards, governance, and best practices
* Proven ability to operate in secure, mission-critical environment
