Location: Inner Gippsland (based at the Moe office, required to work across Inner Gippsland Area)


About the Department

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross‑sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.


About the Group

Schools and Regional Services (SRS) offers central, regional, and local expertise to enhance learning and development outcomes, supported by a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce. It comprises 17 areas within 4 regions, backed by 5 central office divisions, all collaborating to deliver improved outcomes for early childhood services, schools, communities, and learners, in line with Education State commitments. SRS regions serve as a bridge between the central office, schools, and service providers, ensuring smooth transitions for learners and achieving the department's ambitious targets. Each region includes divisions specialising in school performance, student wellbeing and early childhood support, working with area‑based teams to tailor local interventions and practices. The 17 areas provide crucial insights into local trends and issues, facilitating effective policy and program development and driving child and learner outcomes across all services and programmes.

This role is located in the Student Support Services Branch, Inner Gippsland Area, South Eastern Victoria Region, SRS. The Student Support Services Branch is a multi‑disciplinary team responsible for a range of health and wellbeing services. The role reports to the Student Support Services Branch Manager.


About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Team Leader of Student Support Services (SSS) working within the Inner Gippsland Area Team. The successful applicant will be a highly self‑motivated team player providing guidance and leadership to a multi‑disciplinary team of SSS employees delivering support to schools in the provision of student wellbeing services to improve student learning outcomes.

The role requires a level of flexibility and an ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and to manage and lead a team of experienced professionals in the delivery of initiatives in an educational environment.

* Classification: VPS Allied Health Grade 4.2
* Employment Type: Ongoing, Full Time (1.0 FTE)
* Location: Inner Gippsland (based at the Moe office, required to work across Inner Gippsland Area)


Attributes

This position plays a key role in contributing to a multi‑disciplinary approach in both the identification of learning barriers and the contribution of wellbeing strategies and services in schools through an area approach.

The purpose of Student Support Services is to assist children and young people facing a range of barriers to learning to achieve their educational and developmental potential through the provision of a range of strategies and specialised support at individual, group, school and network levels.

Key qualities we are looking for:

Expert advice: You will be required to provide collaborative advice that will influence the development of teaching and learning strategies and student wellbeing programmes for school leadership teams to embed in their practices.

Leadership: You will be required to provide leadership to the SSS team, by managing service delivery within a multidisciplinary Area‑based team and contributing to professional supervision and direction to other members of the team.

Communication: We are looking for highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills as liaison with a range of people in the education community and beyond is a regular activity.

Flexibility: The ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and the capability to work autonomously when required. Collaborative approach: The ability to provide work collaboratively with other allied health professionals within a multidisciplinary team, and work with schools, to identify, develop and coordinate strategies aimed at quality universal services for all students and support schools in addressing wellbeing issues early.


Desirable Qualifications and Experience

The successful applicant will possess a graduate or post‑graduate qualification in one of the following: Speech Pathology, Psychology, Social Work or Occupational Therapy, be eligible for membership of the Speech Pathology Australia (SPA), Australian Association of Social Work (AASW), or member of APRA depending on discipline and possess a current Australian Drivers' Licence and Working with Children Check.
