While collaborating with both the administration and clinical management teams, the position also requires strong organizational and motivational abilities, as the role often involves working independently and managing high-pressure situations, particularly during times of high call volumes and the associated documentation tasks.

The key responsibilities of the Ward Clerk include:
Liaising with the Health Information Manager (HIM) and Clinical Coder
Managing patient admissions and discharges at Mansfield District Hospital
Completing daily bed returns
Preparing documentation for theatre and midwifery bookings as needed
Handling reception and administrative duties at the Nurse’s and Urgent Care stations
Maintaining medical records for all admissions and Urgent Care Centre visits
Organizing appointments for discharged patients
Ensuring high levels of accuracy and literacy in document management and production
Identifying system deficiencies and errors to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of health information management
Providing compassionate and understanding care to all MDH consumers, staff, and stakeholders
Actively participating in unit staff meetings, offering suggestions, ideas, and concerns to improve care delivery
Continuously updating and maintaining relevant skills and knowledge to enhance professional development in the role
