The Role

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for carrying out analytical and other procedures at the on-site Laboratory to agreed standards of safety, efficiency, and quality control.

This a permanent full-time position based at our Kwinana Refinery on a sportsman roster.

Key Responsibilities


• Active participation in the establishment of a health and safety culture.

• Ensure all health, safety and environmental incidents are reported.

• Comply with all health and safety, environmental and regulatory policies relating to the project and ensure a safe working environment. Participate in Laboratory SHE&C processes and initiatives.

• Undertake all work in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with statutory requirements and Covalent policies & procedures.

• Participate in and support Laboratory and quality audits where appropriate.

• Participate in incident and near miss investigations where appropriate

• Contribute to the Continuous Improvement culture of the Laboratory

• Ensure procedures for every task are adhered to (including QA/QC protocols)

• Instrument Operation (including Calibration, Maintenance & Verification activities) as required.

• Spectrophotometric analyses (including ICP, AA, UV-Vis & Colour)Water Quality Testing

• Titration analyses (includes instrumental and manual)

• Fusion, Digestion & Leaching of Samples

• Particle Sizing (including dry laser diffraction & sieve sizing)

• Gravimetric analyses

• Sample preparation (including dewatering, filtration, splitting, pressing & grinding)

• LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System)

• Report QC (Quality Control) non-conformances to Laboratory Supervisor

• Train team members where necessary

Role Requirements


• 3 - 5 years of experience in mining or chemical processing

• Demonstrated experience following QA/QC systems

• Experience with ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) or AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer), Auto -titrators, UV-Vis

• Knowledge of Laser Sizer and/or experience with Sieves

• Experience with sample preparation: Pulveriser, Press, and/or riffle splitter (desirable)

• Experience with fusion and digestion protocols for elemental analyses (desirable)
