About the RFDS

For over 95 years, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has been delivering the finest care to the furthest corner of Australia. We provide aeromedical emergency retrieval, primary health care, mental health and dental services to the seven million Australians who live, work and travel in rural and remote areas – often where no other health services exist.

The RFDS Federation, based in Canberra, serves as the national coordinating body for the RFDS. We manage relationships with the Commonwealth Government, build a public policy voice for better health outcomes in rural and remote Australia, and support strategic coordination across the RFDS network. About the Role

The Finance Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality financial and management accounting services that support the Federation Office. This position oversees the coordination of Commonwealth funding across all RFDS Sections and Operations, contributes to grant acquittals, and leads the development of costing systems, financial reporting, KPI preparation, and national accounting system support.

You will manage and mentor the Accountant, ensuring the smooth operation of core accounting functions including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, taxation, monthly reporting, purchasing, and payroll. The role is highly collaborative, working closely with the CFO, Executive Directors, and finance counterparts across Sections and Operations, while also engaging with external auditors to uphold strong financial governance.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead financial accounting activities, including quarterly and year‑end reporting, general ledger integrity, asset management and audit coordination

* Deliver management accounting functions such as budgeting, forecasting, scenario modelling, monthly performance reporting and executive financial insights

* Oversee administration and optimisation of the TechOne finance system, including configuration, access controls, updates and user support

* Manage all financial aspects of Commonwealth funding, including reconciliation, allocation, cash management, capital funding oversight and policy development

* Produce high‑quality financial and management reporting, including KPI reporting, variance and trend analysis, and consolidated national reporting

* Maintain governance frameworks such as the National Chart of Accounts and support finance‑related board and committee activities

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
* Tertiary Qualification in accounting or business related discipline

* CPA/CA qualified

* Previous experience in a senior finance role of a large complex organisation

* Experience in the preparation of financial reports

* Experience in compliance with the Australian Taxation Office requirements (GST, BAS returns, FBT, PAYG)

* Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards

* Strong analytical and problem solving capability

* Advanced excel spreadsheet skills and report writing

* Ability to translate financial information for non-financial stakeholders.

* Proven experience in problem solving and the recommendation of effective financial solutions.
