Senior Therapeutic Group and Family Practitioner

Emerge is a specialist family violence service located in Melbourne’s Southern Region and is primarily funded by the Victorian Government. Our organisation is focused on supporting women and children on their journey of recovery and healing. Our focus remains holistic and victim‑centric and that our service delivery embeds evidence‑based early intervention and secondary prevention, underpinned by feminist theory, intersectionality, human rights and a trauma informed approach.

Emerge continues to drive innovative practice that disrupts cycles of family violence for affected people across Victoria and our sector leaders in advocating, influencing and driving system change for victim‑survivors.

Emerge has committed to driving forward new and innovative programs aimed at breaking cycles of violence and the Back on Track program is at the forefront of our aim to transform the futures of children and young people.

Back on Track is an exciting innovative early intervention program for children aged 3 – 14 who are demonstrating challenging behaviours related to their experiences of family violence and trauma; and is a sector leading model for prevention and recovery.

Emerge is looking for Senior Therapeutic Practitioner who will lead and deliver group, dyadic and family‑focused interventions for children and safe caregivers recovering from family violence, who has experience in providing early intervention and behaviour change strategies. In 2026, the Back on Track program will be provided to children and families in the Southern and North Western metro regions of Victoria.

Back on Track takes a whole family approach in a therapeutic case work and dyadic delivery model focused on a blend of therapeutic group work and counselling to strengthen child‑parent attachment, increase self‑regulation, and aims to break the cycles of intergenerational violence. The program employs a trauma‑informed, neuro‑affirming practice framework, drawing on evidence‑based therapeutic modalities to support children and families. The program engages multiple modalities including attachment‑focused interventions, play therapy, trauma‑focused cognitive‑behavioural therapy and dyadic therapy.

The Therapeutic Practitioner will work closely with the Principal Practitioner and a small, dynamic and specialised team to deliver the Back on Track program to families.

Successful candidates will:

* Deliver therapeutic interventions to participants in line with the project design and therapeutic approach of Emerge
* Hold a therapeutic caseload
* Meet compliance and evaluation requirements of the project
* Provide consultation and mentoring to other Emerge staff
* Provide high quality evidence and trauma informed therapeutic services within a best practice model
* Establish and maintain collaborative relationships across Emerge.

To apply, please provide:

* Your CV, and
* A cover letter of no more than 3 pages that responds to three KSC:
* Your experience in providing trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented, and neuro‑affirming therapeutic interventions for children and caregivers affected by trauma and/or family violence,
* Your ability to co‑facilitate therapeutic groups for children and caregivers, and deliver dyadic therapy to strengthen parent‑child attachment
* Your experience in providing secondary consultations, mentoring staff, and working collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team to manage risk and ensure recovery.
