Our client, the Department for Environment and Water (SA) is looking for a Coast and River Policy Planner to join their team.
About the Opportunity
Help safeguard two of South Australia's most iconic natural assets. As our Coast and River Planning Officer, you will contribute to shaping resilient, sustainable and well-planned coastal and river environments that support communities now and into the future.
Drawing on your urban and regional planning expertise, you will provide professional planning advice to coordinate and prepare responses to development applications, and review, develop and implement planning policies under the relevant legislation. This role provides the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the preparation of strategic advice for the Coast Protection Board, Department and planning authorities regarding the implications of Board policy for coastal developments. Your ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to develop well-informed solutions to planning issues will be central to achieving success in this position.
What you will be doing:
* Coordinating and preparing timely responses to coast and Murray River development applications.
* Sourcing, analysing, interpreting and applying scientific knowledge to inform planning advice related to coast and marine planning, coastal ecology
* Providing professional planning consultancy services to the Department and external stakeholders on a broad range of coast and marine planning issues.
* Providing specialist and strategic advice to planning authorities on policy implications for development plan amendments.
* Engaging with stakeholders across government, communities and other key stakeholder groups.
* Providing technical planning knowledge across the Department and beyond.
What you will bring:
· Knowledge of the implications of coastal processes and ecological processes for coastal management and planning in South Australia.
* Experience in urban and regional planning, including experience in the assessment of development applications.
* Ability to interpret and apply legislation.
* Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
* Proven ability to undertake research, collate and interpret information, and make recommendations.
* Effective relationship management and team collaboration skills.
Essential Qualifications:
A relevant degree level qualification in planning, environmental management or a related field.

Contract:
Contract till 2 February 2027
Special Conditions:
* You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia without restrictions.
* May be required to participate in responses to state emergencies or associated duties.
* A current class "C" driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is desirable.
* Prior to being employed, the successful applicant will be required to obtain a National Police Check.
* May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel, overnight absences, and work outside of the normal hours of work.
Remuneration:
PO2, $88,255 min - $97,667 max p.a.
