Primary objective
Support government to drive local business and industry growth through the development and management of targeted initiatives
to increase local participation in industry supply chains.
Context statement
The Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations (DTBAR) is the Northern Territory Government’s lead agency to shape an
enabling environment that activates industry, attracts investment and drives business growth to sustain a vibrant Territory
economy and lifestyle. The Policy, Strategy and Insights Division works across industry and government to drive business and
economic development. This includes delivering analysis, advice and policy development to ensure the business environment
remains competitive and effective, advocating for the Territory’s interests, and supporting the Territory’s workforce needs.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support local industry participation in gas, mineral and other priority sector supply chains through targeted initiatives, programs
and events.
2. Provide evidence-based analysis and strategic advice to inform government policy, decision-making and program delivery.
3. Prepare briefs, discussion papers, correspondence and meeting materials for Ministerial, Cabinet and stakeholder engagement.
4. Deliver and coordinate projects, initiatives and events that help Territory businesses grow capabilities and contribute to policy
objectives, including contract oversight where required.
5. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with government, industry and stakeholders through working groups, forums and
meetings.
6. Drive creative solutions to complex policy and program challenges, delivering outcomes within tight timeframes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in policy research, project planning, development and evaluation, including the ability to analyse
complex policy issues and use evidence and data to inform advice.
2. High level communication skills and the ability to deliver clear and considered advice, including demonstrated ability preparing
briefings, reports, presentations and Ministerial correspondence.
3. Proven collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to establish and sustain productive working
relationships, including with people from diverse cultures.
4. Demonstrated understanding of Territory and national business, industry and economic development trends and opportunities,
including the political environment and the ability to translate this into meaningful advice.
5. Demonstrated ability to understand, translate and integrate information in acute timeframes and work as part of a small
professional team to deliver high quality outcomes.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, business or other relevant disciplines.
2. Knowledge or experience working within energy and mineral resources supply chains.
