Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner (Core or Above)
At Waves WA, we deliver Positive Behaviour Support that is neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, and genuinely person-centred. Inspired by lived experience, our work focuses on understanding the meaning behind behaviour, supporting autonomy, and improving quality of life for participants and their families. We are a values-driven organisation that intentionally moves away from compliance-based or behaviour-control models.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced PBS Practitioner (Core level or above) to support participants across the Mandurah region. This role is ideal for a practitioner living in the southern corridor who wants to trade the long commute for meaningful, local community impact. You will work autonomously within the Mandurah area, backed by the support and reflective culture of our wider team.
About You
You are a registered NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner (Core level or above) who is passionate about meaningful, ethical behaviour support.
You are someone who values authentic connection, autonomy in your work, and reflective practice. You're comfortable working independently while staying connected with a supportive team.
You might be someone who has lived experience of disability, neurodivergence, or caring, and if so — we want you to know that at Waves this experience is genuinely valued and respected as a form of expertise.
You will likely excel at Waves if you:
Are an NDIS-registered PBS Practitioner (Core level or above)
Have at least 2 years' experience supporting people with complex needs
Align strongly with neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, person-centred practice
Are comfortable managing your own caseload and shaping your schedule
Value collaboration, reflection, and continuous learning
Have strong written communication and analytical skills, including report writing
Understand (or are willing to learn) the WA disability and NDIS landscape
Hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field
Have Australian work rights
This role suits practitioners who are self-directed, values-driven, and committed to doing this work well — not just getting through a caseload.
What We Offer
At Waves, we believe people do their best work when they feel supported, trusted, and able to work in ways that suit their life and nervous system.
We are not a traditional 9–5 provider. Our practitioners shape their calendars in ways that work for them and the people they support. Some people work school hours, some prefer later appointments, some cluster visits — we focus on sustainable rhythms rather than rigid schedules.
Our role is to provide the support structures that allow you to do your best work.
What this looks like:
Starting from $90,000 + 12% super (FTE) for Core Practitioners
Higher salary available based on experience and proficiency
Travel
Travel reimbursement up to $5,000 per year (FTE)
Flexibility
Work-from-home and community-based work
Full-time or part-time options
Autonomy to structure your calendar in a way that works
Professional Support
Reflective supervision and mentorship
Systems designed with neurodiverse clinicians in mind
A team culture built on kindness, authenticity, and advocacy
Most importantly, we aim to create a workplace where people feel safe to show up as themselves, bring their lived experience, and grow as practitioners.
How We Work at Waves
At Waves, we are building a team that is committed to more than just a job. We are committed to each other, the people we support, and the principles that guide our work — neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, and person-centred practice.
We are not a traditional 9–5 provider. Our practitioners have autonomy to structure their calendars and caseloads in ways that suit them and the people they support. But with this flexibility comes responsibility: we need practitioners who are fully invested in the outcomes for the people they support, and in the success of Waves as a team.
We value lived experience — of disability, neurodivergence, or caring — as a real form of expertise that strengthens our practice. But we also need practitioners who show up consistently, communicate clearly, and are aligned with our values.
People who thrive at Waves are self-directed, reflective, values-driven, and committed to being part of a supportive, collaborative team. If that sounds like you, you'll find a workplace here where you can do your best, most meaningful work.
How to Apply
To be considered for this role, please email your resume and cover letter to *****@waveswa.com.au.
Please Note: To be considered for this role, your application must include:
A current NDIS Worker Screening Check
Your Certificate of Completion for the NDIS Worker Orientation Module
Your cover letter must also address:
Your location within the Mandurah area.
A brief reflection on any lived experience you bring (if comfortable sharing).
Answers to the following reflective questions:
Reflective Question 1: Name a psychological theory, framework, or author that has influenced your approach to supporting people made vulnerable. Why does it resonate with you?
Reflective Question 2: What would you do if a person you are supporting is showing dysregulation, aggressive language, and slamming things down while out in the community?
For suitable applicants whose documentation aligns with our needs, we will request a fully redacted example of an IBSP or CBSP prior to interview to understand your clinical reasoning and alignment with NDIS requirements.
We are deeply committed to the safety and quality of support for our participants. Because of this, we are only able to progress applications that include all of the documentation, screenings, and reflective answers listed above. Providing these upfront helps us understand your registration status and ensures we can move quickly to the next stage of our clinical review.
At Waves WA, we aren't just looking for a practitioner; we are looking for a teammate who believes that PBS should be a tool for liberation, not control. If you are passionate about ethical, neuro-affirming practice and meet our registration requirements, we can't wait to see how your unique perspective - and lived experience - will help our participants grow.
Be careful - Don't provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don\'t transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad.
