Safety Superintendent - Contractor Management

Anglo American Steelmaking Coal

Metallurgical coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.

Job Description :

Reporting to the SHE Manager, you will ensure that all contract activities onsite comply with the Anglo Contractor Management procedures.

Key responsibilities are, but not limited to:

* Manage the Contractor Management Plan, including Authority to Work and Permit to Work systems.
* Ensure contractor processes are correctly implemented and adhered to across site operations.
* Conduct regular surface and underground inspections to verify contractor compliance.
* Confirm equipment used by contractors is safe, maintained, and fit for purpose.
* Engage directly with contractors to reinforce safe work practices.
* Lead proactive safety initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
* Deliver safety presentations and briefings to maintain awareness.
* Identify and act on opportunities to improve contractor management practices.
* Provide timely feedback on compliance issues and required corrective actions.
* Maintain accurate records of inspections, contractor performance, and compliance.
* Support investigations and follow-up actions related to contractor safety incidents.
* Collaborate with internal teams to align contractor activities with operational priorities.

Qualifications

To be successful in the role you will have to have the following:

* Demonstrated leadership experience within the coal mining industry
* S123 and G2
* Knowledge of relevant mining legislation and its application
* Strong business acumen with in-depth knowledge of contract management including financial management, people management and risk management
* Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to influence and achieve buy-in from key stakeholders
* An ability to identify, lead and develop talent within the business
* An intermediate level of strategic thinking, planning and problem solving ability
* An understanding of key safety risks and ways to mitigate these

* Full-time permanent position based at Aquila Mine, Middlemount
* Monday to Friday site role with 9-day fortnight available (flexible work)
