Mas National has an exciting opportunity for a Counsellor & Mentor to work in our Support Hub, delivering an essential part of the Mas National service. Your role will see you initially working within the MasExperience In-Training Support service, which is a free and tailored phone service to assist our apprentice and trainee clients. Your role will also see you supplying a high level of support to other programs operated by Mas National, giving you an opportunity to deliver face to face counselling sessions.

About the role:
You will be providing essential services to apprentices and trainees via phone, along with attending pre-employment programs as a face to face service, ensuring all Mas clients receive exceptional service. The role will also work closely with the Mas Field Mentors who are located across VIC, QLD, TAS & SA
You will be responsible for ongoing monitoring of clients at risk, along with providing support and guidance to employers. All functions of the Counsellor & Mentor are performed with the aim of increasing workforce participation, through either assisting clients to become work ready and/or preserving employment and training.
This is a full time, fixed term contract until 30/06/2024.
You will:
1. Assist apprentices and trainees to break down barriers to successful completion
2. Assist other Mas clients experiencing mental health difficulties or social barriers to explore issues and solutions enabling the client to engage/re-engage with employment and/or training
3. Be the first point of call for employers and apprentices/trainees in crisis
4. Liaise with external agencies such as state based support services, Registered Training Organisations etc to address issues and ensure challenges are dealt with properly
5. Perform caseload management of clients deemed at risk or who have previously been in crisis
6. Conduct largely phone based sessions, with some face to face support in line with contractual obligations

You will bring:
7. Proven experience in supporting clients through crisis
8. Experience working with clients suffering mental health issues
9. Demonstrated ability to perform mediation & apply counselling theory
10. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships
11. Ability to problem solve and take ownership of client issues to find solutions and, with support from both internal and external stakeholders, to resolve them
12. A high level of organisation skills
Applicants must be eligible to work in Australia. A current Working with Children and National Police Checks are required and can be arranged for the suitable applicant.
