Senior legal counsel

Sydney
Autosports Group
Compliance Director
Posted: 12 June
Offer description

* Work alongside experienced legal leadership in a growing ASX-listed group
* Great benefits and a collaborative team environment

Autosports Group is Australia's leading listed prestige and luxury automotive retailer. From a single dealership in 2006, we have grown to over 90 businesses and close to 3,000 employees across Australia and New Zealand, representing some of the world's most iconic automotive brands.

As we continue to grow, we're building the Legal team to match. This is a genuine opportunity to take ownership of substantive legal work across a nationally operating business, with the variety and scale that's hard to find elsewhere.

Reporting into the Head of Legal

and working as part of the broader Legal, Risk and Governance Team, the Senior Legal Counsel will be a trusted business advisor — commercially sharp, accessible and outcomes-focused — with real scope to influence how legal risk is managed across the Group.

What you'll do

* Lead Autosports Group's property legal function and play a key part in the Autosports Group property strategy — negotiating, drafting and reviewing leases, acquisitions and construction contracts across 90+ dealership locations
* Own disputes and litigation end-to-end, including small claims, customer complaints and management of the Litigation Register
* Provide expert advice on Australian Consumer Law, competition law and ACCC merger notification considerations
* Assist with M&A transactions including the acquisition of automotive dealerships
* Draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts and support strategic projects as required
* Monitor regulatory change and partner with the Head of Legal on legal compliance initiatives
* Support the day-to-day management of legal operations, including matter management, templates and team training
* Mentor and guide the Legal Counsel, contributing to a high-performing and efficient team

What you'll bring

* 8+ years PQE with solid in-house legal experience
* Strong working knowledge of Australian Consumer Law, the Corporations Act and privacy legislation
* Experience in property law and litigation highly regarded
* Practical, commercially minded approach with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives
* Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills — you'll be a genuine go-to resource for Dealer Principals and Head Office leaders alike
* A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with an eye for continuous improvement
* Broad portfolio of work — property, disputes, consumer law, M&A, commercial and more
* Work across 6 jurisdictions with a close-knit, supportive legal team
* Genuine mentoring and development within a growing Group legal function
* Hybrid flexibility based from our Leichhardt Head Office (4 days in office)
