Overview
ASIC is seeking a Senior Lawyer to join the Litigation & Public Law team in the Corporate Legal Services group. The role provides expert legal advice on public law issues, manages litigation and claims against ASIC, and supports senior internal stakeholders.
Role Responsibilities
* Deliver expert legal advice and tactical guidance on responding to legal and other claims against ASIC, its members and staff, including claims in negligence, defamation and breach of statutory duties.
* Advise on public law issues relevant to ASIC's operations, including delegations, decision‑making, official duties, Remuneration Tribunal issues, conflicts of interest, public interest disclosures and procedural fairness.
* Prepare internal reports and briefings concerning key matters and projects.
* Provide sound, practical, and timely legal advice on matters affecting ASIC's obligations as a public regulatory body.
* Monitor the regulatory landscape to analyse regulatory reforms, legislative changes and trends.
* Mentor, guide and supervise other team members to ensure high‑quality outcomes.
* Undertake additional responsibilities or tasks as required.

* Location: Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra
* Salary: $152,074 – $168,164 + 15.4% superannuation
* Permanent, Full‑time role

Qualifications
* Hold legal qualifications and be eligible for an Unrestricted Legal Practising Certificate in a State or Territory of Australia.
* Minimum 6+ years post‑admission experience (PAE) as a lawyer, with relevant expertise in government, in‑house or law firm settings.
* Demonstrated understanding of the law, including the PGPA Act, ASIC Act, Public Interest Disclosure Act and other relevant legislation and policies.
* Experience in governance and compliance is highly desirable.

Technical Requirements & Certifications
* Legal qualifications and Unrestricted Legal Practising Certificate.
