You will be part of a highly creative and efficient multi-disciplinary BIM design team, tasked with designing challenging and complex projects with innovative solutions for Amazon‐owned data center facilities. Your role involves preparing Civil models and site designs utilizing Civil 3D and Revit, influencing data center design documents for campus planning, grading and drainage design, stormwater management, site utilities and building tie‐in, pavement design, and site development documentation. You will produce and maintain Civil drawing sets for our fleet of data centers.
Key Job Responsibilities
* Design the Civil infrastructure of data center sites, utilizing Civil 3D to create and maintain BIM site/campus models.
* Work independently with occasional guidance and within a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks.
* Collaborate with internal groups and external suppliers, consultants, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
* Prepare and develop detailed Civil BIM models and site layouts, coordinated and aligned with our latest building designs.
* Develop and publish construction documentation for Civil site and campus designs in a fast‐paced environment to meet scheduled deliverables.
* Create and maintain regional and global template documents, with content libraries for both Civil 3D and Revit.
* Update and modify existing models, studies and construction documents as required.
* Assist the creation and maintenance of BIM templates and enforce BIM standards across Civil 3D and Revit workflows.
* Participate in design coordination meetings with other trades for clash detection and resolution.
* Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
* Assist information exchange processes between internal and external customers in a Common Data Environment (CDE).
* Record and report key metrics to management.
* Travel to data center sites for engineering evaluations and surveys as required (usually once or twice a year).
* Provide positive, creative, out‐of‐the‐box solutions.
Day in the Life
As a Designer, you collaborate across disciplines and teams to refine data center designs. Your work includes creating detailed models, drawings, specifications, and prototypes, and updating managers and leaders on changes to the building and site design. You engage in design discussions, review feedback from peers and collaborators, and adjust designs to ensure our data center solutions meet the highest standards of efficiency and quality.
About the Team
Within the AWS Data Center Community, the Data Center Design Engineering team is a dynamic and collaborative group of engineers and designers dedicated to revolutionizing data center infrastructure. Together, we strive for the highest level of quality, efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in data center operations.
Basic Qualifications
* 5+ years of engineering experience.
* 4+ years of experience using Civil 3D for producing Civil BIM content, site/campus layouts, and construction drawings.
* Direct experience creating workflows that reference Revit into Civil 3D to capture the latest building design updates.
* Direct experience creating and maintaining Civil 3D parts, structures, pipe/pressure networks, corridors, and surfaces.
* Practical knowledge and understanding of building codes and safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
* Experience designing sites from test‐fit through to site permit delivery.
* Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers.
* Experience and knowledge applying Lean principles to design modeling and drawing production.
* Use of the following software tools: Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Dynamo, RF Tools, CTC Tools, Smartsheet, and Procore.
* Familiarity with the BIMForum LOD Specification, plus best practices for BIM collaboration.
