Role Overview
Role type: Full Time (1.0 FTE); Fixed Term for three years. Faculty: Faculty of Science. Department/School: School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
Salary: UoM 8: $125,191 - $135,504 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.
Responsibilities
- Configure, run and enhance experimental ACCESS regional atmosphere and land models on the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) high‐performance systems.
- Manage climate and weather software development projects from concept through implementation, testing and evaluation.
- Diagnose and resolve model, performance and workflow issues, providing expert technical support on the NCI and related platforms.
- Develop and maintain documentation, example configurations and training materials for ACCESS and associated tools.
- Design and deliver tutorials and workshops that build computational skills across the 21st Century Weather Centre's diverse research community.
Qualifications
- Hold a postgraduate qualification in science, software engineering or a closely related computational field.
- Strong experience developing scientific software with version control, solving physical problems using numerical algorithms.
- Program confidently in Fortran and Python within Unix or Linux environments; additional experience in C or C++ is appreciated.
- Detailed understanding of climate system models and high‐performance computing, including MPI‐based parallelisation and optimisation.
- Knowledge of software engineering best practice, documentation, testing and collaborative workflows for large codebases.
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering training for researchers with diverse technical backgrounds.
