Black and White Espresso in Chisholm is seeking a skilled and experienced Cook/Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking quality meals while maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare, cook, and present menu items according to established standards
* Assist with menu planning and development in consultation with management
* Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation
* Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene, and WHS requirements
* Supervise and support kitchen staff as required
* Assist with stock control, ordering, and minimising food wastage
* Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment
Cook Responsibilities
* Inspect food items to ensure freshness, quality, and compliance with hygiene standards.
* Monitor and adjust temperatures of ovens, grills, and other cooking equipment to maintain safe and consistent cooking conditions.
* Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to recipes and workplace procedures.
* Season food appropriately during cooking to achieve required taste and presentation standards.
* Portion meals, plate dishes, and add gravies, sauces, and garnishes as required.
* Store food safely in temperature-controlled facilities in line with food safety requirements.
* Prepare meals to meet special dietary requirements (e.g., allergies, vegetarian, gluten-free).
* Assist with menu planning and estimating food and ingredient requirements when needed.
* Train and support other kitchen staff and apprentices as required.
Skills and Experience
* Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher
* At least 12months of relevant work experience as a Cook/Chef
* Sound knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen operations
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
* Strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills
