We run programs that help smash the stigma surrounding mental health and empower young people to reach out for support. We help create supportive communities. About This Position
The Being Herd program at batyr trains and supports young people to build the skills and confidence to share lived experiences of mental ill-health and their journey reaching out for support.
The Lived Experience Coordinator will be responsible for the recruitment, coordination and delivery of batyr’s lived experience training. This role will involve community and youth engagement to promote the Being Herd program alongside batyr’s other activities.
The Lived Experience Coordinator will report directly to the Lived Experience Training Manager based in Melbourne.
All candidates will need to hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Check, or be willing to obtain these within one (1) month of starting the role.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate and facilitate batyr’s lived experience and advocacy training workshops
* Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders and key community partners
* Support the development and implementation of community engagement and youth engagement strategies to promote batyr’s activities
* Support the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of batyr’s lived experience and advocacy training
* Develop and improve lived experience team processes to improve reach, impact and efficiency
* Track and report on operational and strategic targets related to batyr’s lived experience program
* Support the lived experience team with projects and activities as required
* Work closely with the programs team to support activities, including programs and events
* Contribute to, or extend on, the broader culture, mission and strategy at batyr, including supporting other teams with their objectives where required
* High level of empathy, with the ability to maintain emotional boundaries and support young people to explore their stories
* 1+ year working in the mental health sector
* Experience conducting psychosocial and risk assessments
* Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and written
* An ability to connect with young people and stakeholders in an engaging, connected, and authentic way
* Experience developing and implementing community engagement and youth engagement strategies
* Excellent organisational skills and an ability to juggle different priorities and work well under pressure
* Experience coordinating and working with groups of young people
* Ability to travel interstate when required and deliver workshops on weekends as required
* 2 + years working experience in the mental health sector
* Proven experience coordinating workshops or programs
* Experience or knowledge in lived experience storytelling and/or engagement
