Are you a passionate academic leader committed to advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes? James Cook University (JCU) is seeking an inspiring Senior Lecturer to join our vibrant College of Healthcare Sciences, based in either Townsville or Cairns. This is an identified position.

WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality education and providing academic leadership in the areas of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nursing and Midwifery. You will play a crucial role in developing and delivering culturally responsive curricula, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

To succeed in this role, you must possess a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, combined with a strong commitment to advancing reconciliation and social justice. Your exceptional communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, students, and academic colleagues.


Key Responsibilities

* Develop and deliver engaging and culturally responsive curricula in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nursing and Midwifery.
* Provide academic leadership and mentorship to students, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
* Contribute to research and scholarly activities that advance Indigenous health outcomes and healthcare practices.
* Collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, establishing and maintaining strong partnerships.
* Participate in academic governance, service, and professional activities within the College and University.


Qualifications and Experience

* A relevant postgraduate qualification in Nursing, Midwifery, or a related field, with a strong focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and well-being.
* Extensive experience in curriculum design, teaching, and student support in the tertiary education sector.
* Demonstrated success in management, leadership and negotiation skills working with cross cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
* A deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contemporary issues.
* Demonstrated understanding of the concepts of Cultural Safety as it relates to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the health sector.
