Role: Principal Maintenance Manager (PMM) within the Maritime Integrated Warfare Systems (MIWS) Branch. You will support the maintenance delivery and sustainment of cutting edge capability, overseeing the update, upgrade and upkeep of integrated warfare and combat systems for the Royal Australian Navy's surface fleet and related support systems.
This role may involve coordinating maintenance activities with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in regional maintenance centres, at the waterfront, or at sea. A maritime background is preferred, with experience in one or more of the following areas: marine engineering, mechanical engineering, combat systems, electrical, communications, mechanical, and mechatronics.
Compensation includes a 10% BDCP and up to 15.4% superannuation, with a pay range adjustment in March 2026 under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement 2024. Applicants joining before the pay increase will be appointed within the base range.
Responsibilities
* Ensure that planned, urgent and rolling maintenance activities align with baselines set by the Principal Engineer (PE) and are in accordance with MIWS Authorised Materiel Seaworthiness Delivery Organisation (AMSDO).
* Assure external maintenance periods and both organic and external condition-based maintenance activities in collaboration with stakeholders including: Class Lifecycle Engineer Officer (CLEO), Regional Maintenance Centres (RMCs), PE, and Principal Support Manager (PSM).
* Assure maintenance systems for new product acquisitions.
* Articulate and mitigate risks associated with deficiencies in maintenance regimes, escalating as necessary to relevant authorities.
* Engage with the PSM and PE to coordinate an AMSDO response to Operating and Support Intent (OSI) and the Materiel Support Management Plan (MSMP).

Ideal Candidate / Qualifications
* Demonstrated engineering experience in support and maintenance within an Authorised Engineering Organisation and an Authorised Maintenance Organisation.
* Engineering experience and insight into combat systems, other integrated warfare systems, or engineering management of major systems integration.
* Ability to lead a team by example with strong work ethic and resilience.
* Mature judgement, professionalism and high-level interpersonal skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to build and sustain successful working relationships.
