We are currently seeking a Sports Turf Maintenance Officer to join our Sporting Reserves Team. This hands‐on role plays an important part in maintaining high‐quality sporting facilities that support community participation, recreation, and organised sport across Latrobe City.
About This Role
As a Sports Turf Maintenance Officer, you will primarily be responsible for the day‐to‐day maintenance activities of Council's Regional Centres of Excellence including:
* Regional Cricket Centre of Excellence - Ted Summerton Reserve
* Regional Football Centre of Excellence - Morwell Recreation Reserve
* Regional Soccer Centre of Excellence - Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park, Morwell
You will apply advanced sports turf expertise, including a high degree of technical knowledge related to disease, weed and pest identification and necessary controls to deliver high‐quality playing surfaces and general reserve maintenance, including turf cricket pitch preparation, chemical and fertiliser application, and specialist turf operations across the municipality.
This role also supports the development of apprentices through hands‐on coaching, contributes positively to a collaborative and inclusive workplace, and provides flexible operational support across Council's City Presentation and maintenance teams as priorities require.
About You
You enjoy working outdoors and take pride in maintaining high‐quality playing surfaces. You are practical, reliable, and safety‐focused, with the ability to work as part of a team while also managing your own tasks effectively.
You will bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and an understanding of the importance of well‐maintained sports facilities to the community.
You will also need
* Minimum Certificate III in Sports Turf Management with a relevant post‐trade certificate desirable.
* Medium rigid vehicle licences (as a minimum) and willingness to obtain a heavy rigid licence within 6 months of employment, chemical users' licence and white card.
* Practical experience performing specialised skills in turf management, e.g., turf wicket preparation, grass playing surface renovations etc.
* A high level of practical and technical knowledge in respect to current practices and industry standards relating to the preparation and maintenance of sports turf.
