Connex Group is a specialist structural engineering, construction modelling, and shop drawing consultancy, operating as part of the CG&C Group - a fully integrated engineering, fabrication, and construction business.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Draftsperson / Structural Steel and or precast Detailer to join our Wangaratta office. This role suits either:
* an early-career detailer with up to two years of experience looking to develop strong Tekla and workshop drawing skills, or
* a motivated entry-level candidate with a genuine interest in building and construction, ready to start a long-term drafting/Modeling career.
About the role
As part of our Construction Modelling & Shop Drawing team, you will work closely with Engineers, Architects, Senior Detailers, Fabricators, and Project Managers to produce accurate, shop-ready documentation that directly supports steel fabrication and site installation.
This is not a siloed drafting role. You'll gain exposure to how design decisions affect fabrication, logistics, safety, and on-site outcomes.
Our work spans high-end residential, commercial, infrastructure, and government projects across regional and metropolitan areas along Australia's eastern seaboard, including complex and challenging builds others shy away from.
Key Role Responsibilities
* Work with the detailing team and other internal and external resources to develop practical knowledge of engineering and fabrication concepts and methodologies.
* Using Tekla Structures produce clear and accurate production/shop-ready drawings within required timeframes, including part details, assembly details, and erection layout plans, to facilitate steel and precast panel manufacture and erection.
* Comply with design drawings and industry standards, as advised and shown in internal operations manuals.
* Self-check all work, in preparation for further QA checks
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

* Minimum of Year 12 education or relevant industry experience
* Strong communication skills both verbal and written
* Efficient use of Microsoft suite – Word, Excel, Outlook
* Willingness to learn and apply new skills
* Strong administration skills with an eye for detail
* Ability to work in a team environment
* Professional and customer focused
The following qualifications and skills will be advantageous:
* Formal Qualifications in Building and design
* Previous experience using detailing software Tekla Structures
