Senior Infrastructure / Platform Engineer (VMware to Hyper‑V Migration) Location: Canberra Working Arrangement: Hybrid Security Clearance: NV1 (required) Engagement Type: Contract or Permanent - Industry leading Contract rates and Salaries Contract Duration: Initial 3 months with potential 12‑month extension Start Date: ASAP The Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Infrastructure / Platform Engineer to support a critical on‑premise infrastructure modernisation initiative, with a strong focus on migrating from VMware to Microsoft Hyper‑V. This role will play a key part in delivering a migration proof of concept (PoC) and supporting the broader transition of virtualised workloads. The environment is enterprise‑scale, Windows‑centric, and security‑conscious, requiring a hands‑on engineer who can design, implement, and document pragmatic solutions. There are currently no internal resources available for this work, and the role has full budget approval. Interviews and feedback can be arranged immediately. Key Responsibilities Design and implement a VMware to Hyper‑V migration Proof of Concept in an on‑premise environment Lead hands‑on deployment of Microsoft Hyper‑V environments, including: Host configuration Clustering VM provisioning Design and validate Hyper‑V architecture across compute, storage, and networking layers Plan and execute VM migration waves, particularly for non‑production workloads Support and maintain hybrid hypervisor environments during transition phases Provide technical input into infrastructure designs, migration plans, and implementation approaches Produce clear and pragmatic technical documentation to support decision‑making and delivery Work closely with stakeholders to support a smooth transition and future‑state platform stability Essential Skills & Experience Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Hyper‑V, including design and deployment Proven experience delivering Hyper‑V architecture designs and PoC implementations Deep Wintel infrastructure expertise, including: Windows Server Active Directory DNS Group Policy Experience migrating virtual workloads from VMware to Hyper‑V Solid working knowledge of VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter, and VM lifecycle management Experience with Windows Failover Clustering and Hyper‑V high availability Strong understanding of virtualised infrastructure dependencies (compute, storage performance, networking) Ability to work autonomously and deliver outcomes quickly in a complex environment Desirable Skills Previous experience working in large Australian Government environments Infrastructure or platform design experience beyond implementation Experience contributing to or leading migration strategy development Diversity and Inclusion We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
