**About the Emergency Department and Short Stay Unit**
The Emergency Department services approximately 80,000 patients per year, about 20% of whom are paediatric patients. We aim to assess, manage and admit patients from a broad range of specialties within the targets set by the Emergency Services Enhancement Program of the Department of Human Services (DoH). This service is delivered in a timely, compassionate and appropriate manner, enhanced through teaching, research and the development of new technologies and processes.
The Short Stay Unit is a 24-bed unit, including paediatric, adult and mental health beds. It is closely associated with, and staffed by, the Emergency Department.
**About the role**
As the Theatre Technician, you will support and collaborate with the Equipment Nurse in the Emergency Department.
A regular day will see you:
- Assist the Equipment Nurse in the day-to-day stock management processes of the clinical and non-clinical areas of the department.
- Surveillance, storage and maintenance of ED equipment stocks and stores.
- Assist in the routine and urgent maintenance and repair of Emergency Department Equipment.
- Assist the Equipment Nurse in liaising with the hospital supply department and outside suppliers re the ordering and purchasing of supplies according to unit requirements.
- Maintain safe work practices and setting by actively reducing hazards, reporting accidents/incidents and actively promoting accident prevention.

- Capacity to increase EFT hours (40 hrs per week) on a needs basis, to facilitate leave cover for the ED Equipment Nurse.
