A forward-thinking school in Newcastle is looking for a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to support students aged 16 to 19. This is a rewarding role for someone passionate about helping young adults with a range of needs – including Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and communication challenges – develop essential life, vocational, and academic skills.
Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to post-16 learners with special educational needs.
* Assist with the delivery of tailored academic and life skills sessions
* Encourage independence, communication, and self-confidence in every interaction.
* Support students in community-based learning and transition planning.
* Help manage behaviour and emotional regulation in a calm and positive manner.
* Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to meet individual learning goals.
* Monitor and document student progress and wellbeing.
Requirements:
* Experience working with students or young adults with SEN (school, college, care or youth setting).
* A patient, adaptable, and supportive approach.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Understanding of autism, SEMH, or learning difficulties.
* Awareness of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
* Relevant qualifications in education or support work are desirable.
* Have anupdated CV and anenhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
