About the role

Are you passionate about public policy?

The Productivity Commission (PC) is seeking curious, talented graduates to help solve Australia's biggest economic, social and environmental challenges.

PC graduates work alongside some of Australia's top policy experts, data analysts and economic thinkers, and have access to both on-the-job and formal training. From day one, you'll be an integral part of our team – analysing issues, testing ideas with key stakeholders, designing innovative solutions and recommending policies that make a real difference.

This is your chance to launch your career, build your policy skills and contribute to decisions that shape Australia's future.

Join our 2027 graduate program

We are an independent agency that provides advice to the Australian Government on economic, social and environmental policies to improve the wellbeing of all Australians.

We are searching for critical thinkers who are passionate about public policy. Successful applicants will demonstrate an awareness of Australia's policy landscape, have well-developed conceptual, analytical, research and communication skills, and work effectively in teams.

The PC is a friendly, welcoming organisation with excellent employment conditions and development opportunities. We have offices in Melbourne and Canberra and can offer hybrid working arrangements. Relocation assistance is available if required.

To be eligible, successful applicants must have completed a relevant undergraduate degree (or above) or expect to graduate by January 2027. Applicants must have a distinction average or higher and have graduated after January 2022. Qualifications that underpin your ability to do applied public policy analysis, such as economics, commerce and law, will be highly regarded. Graduates from other fields relevant to applied public policy such as Indigenous studies, mathematics, statistics, public policy and environmental science are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Successful applicants will commence on 1 February 2027.

It is anticipated that first round offers will be made to successful candidates in the middle of 2026. Further offers may be made until December 2026.

Graduate broadband

PC graduates are engaged at the APS 4 classification with a starting salary of $79,125, within the PC's graduate broadband. In previous years, most graduates have progressed to the APS 5 classification upon completing the graduate program and meeting the conditions for advancement outlined in clause 75 of the PC Enterprise Agreement.

Be yourself at the PC

We welcome and celebrate diversity and value the unique backgrounds, perspectives and experience that each person brings to our workplace.

The PC's commitment to employing, supporting and developing people from all walks of life is set out in our Inclusion and diversity strategy 2024-2028.

This strategy describes what we are doing to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace, and why it is important at the PC.

Position eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment with the PC, applicants must:

* hold Australian Citizenship.
* be willing to undergo a security and character clearance (which may include, but is not limited to, completing an identity verification check, police check, and obtaining/maintaining an Australian Government security vetting clearance if required by the role).
* provide evidence of relevant qualifications and academic performance.

APS RecruitAbility Scheme

RecruitAbility is an affirmative measure that provides progression of applicants with disability to the next stage in a selection process if they have been assessed as meeting the minimum requirements of the job. For further information please refer to the Australian Public Service Commission RecruitAbility Guidance.
