About the role: Reporting to the Physiotherapy Manager this role is responsible for delivering specialised neurological physiotherapy services, leading clinical initiatives, and mentoring junior staff within the neurosciences unit. Duties for the role will include: Assess, manage, discharge plan as well as actively engage with patients and/or their family/carers in care planning and goal setting to ensure optimal outcomes. Apply advanced physiotherapy knowledge and skills in the area of neurosciences, and be responsible for the management of complex clinical cases within this work area as either the primary therapist or as a clinical consultant in support of other staff. Leading the neurosciences physiotherapy team. This will include managing referrals and workload allocation, co-ordinating and supervising the team’s clinical (both professional and operational) and administrative staff (where appropriate), seeking assistance from the Manager, Physiotherapy for complex matters when required. This also includes ensuring that all staff allocated to the work area receives appropriate orientation and where relevant participate in setting short term roster goals. Assist with the overall coordination of staffing and rostering within the Department. This may include responsibility of Unit Rostering and/or weekend rostering and/or the management of planned leave cover. This will include advising and making recommendations regarding issues relevant to the neurosciences work area. Engage and liaise with external organisations on clinical issues to ensure appropriate patient care is delivered across the continuum of care. About you: Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration within the Physiotherapy Board of Australia Substantial experience in one or more of the clinical areas covered by the team to enable input at a senior clinician level. Ability to lead professional and non-professional staff to foster teamwork, co-operation and optimal performance of that team. This also includes the ability to resolve conflict/problems constructively and efficiently. Ability to assess and enhance staff performance constructively. Advanced ability to set priorities, organise activities and achieve timely outcomes for self and other members of one’s team under high clinical workloads/demands. Ability to independently apply a high level of professional judgement in one or more of the clinical areas covered by the team, without professional supervision.
