About the Net Zero Economy Authority The Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA) is established by the Net Zero Economy Act 2024 as a statutory agency. Its mission is to empower the regions, workers and communities most affected by Australia's transition to a net zero emissions economy to anticipate and respond to the risks and opportunities of the transition. The authority is a new government agency in the Prime Minister's Portfolio. It is led by an independent board and Chief Executive Officer. The authority is presently establishing itself as a separate entity, including off-boarding from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). The authority is expected to transition in 2025 to being a separate entity from PM&C, at which time, all employees will transfer under Machinery of Government (MoG) changes to the authority. Currently, as part of PM&C, non-SES NZEA employees are covered by the employment conditions under the PM&C Enterprise Agreement 2024-27. Mobilising supports for workers impacted by the transition to net zero, such as workers in closing power stations, including by administering the legislated Energy Industry Jobs Plan. Helping to facilitate investment in new and decarbonised industries, especially where this creates jobs and economic opportunities for regions affected by the transition to net zero. Communicating and engaging with regions, workers and industries affected by the transition to net zero to build understanding of, and engagement with the change and associated government supports. Informing and influencing government policy so that it is responsive to the objective of an orderly and positive transition to a net zero economy. Who are we looking for? This is an exciting time to join as you'll be helping to shape the Authority. We are seeking expressions of interest from highly motivated, adaptable individuals with a wide range of expertise and transferable skills to join us. If you have a background in (but not limited to) investment facilitation, policy, First Nations and community engagement and workplace relations, then we want to hear from you. A strong interest in Australia's transition to net zero and the challenges facing regions and their communities, industry and government is also desirable. Flexibility and adaptability will be important, noting some roles may evolve over time as the authority develops.
