Offer description

Park Ridge State High School is seeking a dedicated Head of Department - Student Engagement to work within a committed team in promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing and student engagement across the school. This is a temporary full-time position until 26 June 2026, unless otherwise determined. Join us in fostering a versatile education for a versatile world, where every student is supported to achieve excellence in all we do.

About Us
Park Ridge State High School is a community that values learning, integrity and teamwork and strive to achieve our vision: "Excellence in all we do." We set high expectations of our staff and students and have created a culture that rewards hard work and effort.

Our school was established in 1991 in southern Brisbane where we operate a supportive learning culture that caters for the diverse interests and abilities of our students. Teachers work collaboratively with parents and students to develop exceptional outcomes and create new opportunities for success. Our focus is always on personalising each student's learning experience to support them in their learning pathway towards "excellence."

We invest in our young people by: providing a safe and supportive learning environment; developing innovative and engaging programs and learning experiences; responding to every student's needs; and setting high expectations for learning, presentation, attendance and community responsibility.

About The Role
As Head of Department - Student Engagement, you will play a critical role in supporting the re-engagement of students, strengthening school discipline, and maintaining safe, positive, and inclusive learning environments.

Working collaboratively with school leadership, you will manage Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavioural interventions, ensure processes align with departmental legislation and policy, and support staff, students, and families to re-establish effective engagement with learning.

This role combines operational decision-making with compassionate, evidence-based support — ensuring every student has the opportunity to participate and succeed.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

* Lead and implement innovative strategies to improve student learning outcomes and attendance, particularly for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring equitable and high-quality education for all.
* Monitor student performance and behaviour, develop targeted intervention strategies, and embed socially just practices to enhance academic achievement and engagement.
* Collaborate and communicate with parents, higher education institutions, State Schools Division, regional executive teams, teachers, and external agencies to support student success and holistic wellbeing.
* Develop and deliver community engagement initiatives in partnership with local businesses, not-for-profit organisations, and support agencies to assist students and families, including new arrivals.
* Oversee team operations by managing human, financial, facilities, and curriculum resources; ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policies; and prepare data reports as required for senior management.

Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.
How To Apply

* Please submit a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant previous work history); and
* A 2-pg written response to Key Capability 1 and 2 in the How you will be assessed section of the role description.

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.

Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.

Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
