Director, Assurance - Rail, Major Infrastructure
$1300 - $1400 p.d. + Superannuation & WFH flex
Sydney Trains is seeking an experienced and influential Director, Assurance to lead a critical uplift of assurance, risk and safety governance across one of Australia's most complex and safety‑critical transport environments. This is a high‑impact executive contract suited to a seasoned leader with strong presence, strategic capability, and experience driving organisation‑wide transformation.
In this senior leadership role, you will set the strategic direction for assurance, oversee enterprise risk and safety governance, and provide trusted, high‑level advice to the executive. You will shape the organisation's assurance framework, strengthen culture and capability, and ensure confidence in operational integrity across a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the organisation's assurance strategy, framework and governance
* Oversee enterprise‑wide assurance activities across safety, risk and compliance
* Provide authoritative advice, insights and reporting to senior executives
* Drive assurance culture uplift and capability development across the division
* Ensure effective oversight of critical risks and controls
* Engage proactively with regulators, operational leaders and executive stakeholders
* Lead and influence organisation‑wide change and transformation initiatives
* Support continuous improvement, learning, and operational excellence
Key Requirements
Mandatory
* Extensive executive‑level experience in assurance, risk, safety or governance
* Proven capability leading major organisational change or transformation programs
* Strong presence, communication and executive influencing skills
* Demonstrated experience in large, complex and safety‑critical or highly regulated environments
* Ability to develop and lead enterprise assurance strategy and uplift initiatives
* Experience engaging with senior stakeholders, regulators and external partners
Desirable
* Background in rail, transport, energy, utilities, aviation or other safety‑critical sectors
* Experience uplifting assurance maturity, culture and capability
* Advanced skills in governance, risk and performance reporting
* Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or professional certifications in risk, audit, safety, governance or related fields
* Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in complex operational settings
